Specialty classes starting this month

September 3rd, 2010 4:08 am

We are so excited to announce not one, but two great specialty classes that will both start this month!

PILATES WITH KRISTINE
Starting Saturday, Sept. 11
8-8:45 am
This session will run for four weeks, once a week on Saturdays

GIRLS NIGHT OUT BOOTCAMP WITH DINA
Starting Friday, Sept. 17
6-6:45 pm
This session will run for four weeks, once a week on Fridays

The best part: These two sessions are “donation classes.” We have created these sessions specifically to help our instructor trainees pay the Jazzercise franchise fee to become new instructors. We have not set a price. You can come for one class and pay a donation, or you can come to an entire session and pay a donation. Or come to both sessions and pay a donation! Every bit helps!

100 percent of all donations will go directly to the trainees.

Also, be on the lookout for healthy goodies (our version of a bake sale) after classes! All proceeds will go to the trainees as well!

These sessions would also be a great way to grab a friend and bring her to class, too! Party with your best girlfriends on Friday nights, and tone those muscles in pilates class on Saturday mornings! And these classes are open to all — not just Galt Jazzercise customers — so be sure to mention it to everyone!

See you in class!

Schedule Change

September 1st, 2010 2:49 pm

Effective Sept 1, we will no longer be offering Monday and Wednesday 4:15 pm classes. This cancellation will remain in effect until we have more instructor coverage in Galt.

The decision to cancel these two classes came after reviewing almost three years worth of attendance data, and considering the Jazzercise recommendations for total classes in relation to number of instructors as well as Galt demographics. No other classes will be affected.

The craziness of this summer has taught us all that we need to take care of ourselves in order to better serve you. We thank you all for your understanding, and look forward to adding more classes soon!

This week at Galt Jazzercise

July 31st, 2010 9:25 pm

There’s a lot of information to share with everyone, but I’ll start with this week’s schedule:

All classes are back ON, EXCEPT Monday/Wednesday 4:15 pm class. Here’s the schedule:

  • Monday: 9:15 am & 5:45 pm
  • Tuesday: 4:15 pm & 5:45 pm
  • Wednesday: 9:15 am & 5:45 pm
  • Thursday: 4:15 pm & 5:45 pm
  • Friday: 9:15 am
  • Saturday: 9 am

As most of you know, Delia is out indefinitely due to the loss of her son, Victor. She is hanging in there, and really appreciates everyone’s well wishes and support. It means a lot to her.

As for Dina, she has hurt her foot (inflamed metatarsal). She’s hoping to be back by the end of this week, possibly next week. This all means….

Galt Jazzercise will be renamed this week to Kristine’s Jazzercise! All Kristine, ALL DAY! For this reason, I have decided to cancel the Monday and Wednesday 4:15 pm classes until Dina’s back. We still have Tuesday and Thursday 4:15 STEP!

Four more quick announcements:

Saturday, Aug. 7: Casting Call! Clearly, Galt Jazzercise needs more instructors! Interested? Stick around after Saturday’s class for a movement screening with Kristine. A movement screening just determines if you know the common moves we do in class and can do them correctly. I’ll ask you to perform a move on your own, with music. After we’re done, you can turn in a completed application, and the screening results and application are forwarded to Jazzercise. It’s a painless process and gets the ball rolling toward training and certification. Questions? Ask Kristine in any/all of this week’s classes!

Sunday, Aug. 22: Spaghetti Dinner and Prize Raffle for Delia’s family. This will be held at the Littleton Community Center in Galt, 4-7 pm. I’m finding out if we can sell advance tickets. Prize donations will also be happily accepted!

Monday, Aug. 23: Jazzercise One-Day Sale! Sign up on Aug 23 and pay only $99 for the rest of the year! New customers pay a $30 joining fee, but former customers don’t pay a joining fee! This is a fantastic deal if you’d like to sign back up for Jazzercise, start Jazzercise, or currently attend Jazzercise but have friends who don’t. Remember, current customers will get 50% off one month of Jazzercise when they bring a new student/sign up to class! Spread the word to all your favorite girlfriends!

Coming this November 12-13: Women of Faith conference at Arco Arena! I attended last year’s conference and it was amazing! Our very own Jean has put together a Galt group and has 40 tickets left. Tickets are $89, include lunches on both days and can be partially paid (as long as it’s paid in full by Aug 31). See Jean for more information or visit www.womenoffaith.com

Babysitting now offered for all 5:45 pm classes!

July 1st, 2010 5:19 pm

Please welcome — and thank — Jennifer Simpson, who has volunteered to be our new babysitter for our 5:45 pm classes! Jennifer will watch, care for and otherwise entertain your children while you Jazzercise for only $1 per child, per class!

Our previous babysitter, Mia, will be back soon to help Jennifer with the babysitting fun.

Feel free to bring your children to class, and be sure to tell your mom-friends to come, too! Remember, every referral you bring to Jazzercise (who signs up), gets you 50% off one month of Jazzercise!

July Special: Workout for the rest of summer for $50

July 1st, 2010 5:14 pm

July 2010′s new student special is a hot one! Workout for the rest of summer (July and August) for only $50!

The fine print: Joining fees apply (at Galt Jazzercise, our joining fee is $30), and you can get this deal if you sign up for autopay, which would start Sept. 1 (at Galt Jazzercise, our monthly autopay is $32). So your total out-of-pocket would be $80 to get you going, and $32 due beginning Sept. 1. These fees only apply to Galt Jazzercise. Other Jazzercise locations charge different prices.

Vital Statistics

June 19th, 2010 3:48 am

After years of failed attempts, you’ve made a decision. You know what you want in him, how he should behave, what you’d like him to tell you, and how you want him to say it. And you have found The One. You’ve spent time talking on the phone, and emailing each other back and forth. You’re ready to meet for the first time.

And he’s bringing a deluge of forms requiring your complete honesty and signature. Now is not the time to be coy, shy or save your deepest, darkest secrets until you’re farther along in your relationship.

You are about to embark on a relationship with a personal trainer, and this time it will be different. This time, you’ll see results. But only if your honest from the get go.

Any personal trainer who has been certified by a reputable certifying organization requires all clients to complete a series of health screenings before creating a customized workout routine and schedule. If you’re not completely honest, not only are you risking setting yourself up for failure, you might also be putting your health in danger. Specifically, the following conditions may negatively affect your training and should be discussed with your new personal trainer.

Cardiovascular Disease/Heart Disease

One of the body’s major muscles is the heart. Cardiovascular disease, or heart disease, is a generic umbrella term used to encompass everything from angina (chest pain), to atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries as a result of cholesterol build up). If you have been diagnosed with cardiovascular disease by a physician, chances are your arteries are having trouble getting blood flowing to your heart. If you’re already having trouble getting an appropriate amount of blood to your heart, think how much more trouble you will have with an accelerated heart rate from exercise.

Does this mean cardiovascular disease patients cannot exercise? Absolutely not! But it is imperative that you work with your physician closely to get approval to exercise, to learn which exercises to avoid, and to determine how intense your workout should be. Likewise, any medication you are on can also affect your training, so be sure to fill your personal trainer in on all prescription and non-prescription medications you are currently taking.

Also, if you haven’t been diagnosed with cardiovascular disease but have any of the following known risk factors for heart disease, you’ll need to tell your trainer:

  • Family history: Heart disease and/or death from heart disease in your father (under age 55) or other first-degree male relative (such as a brother or son), or in your mother (under age 65) or other first-degree female relative (such as a sister or daughter).
  • Cigarette smoking: Current or if you’ve quit within the past six months
  • High blood pressure: Above 140/90
  • High cholesterol: Total cholesterol above 200 mg/dL, or an LDL level above 130 mg/dL
  • Impaired fasting glucose: Above 110 mg/dL
  • Obesity: BMI above 30, or waist measurement above 40 inches in men and 35 inches in women
  • Sedentary lifestyle: If you don’t exercise on a consistent basis, you’re officially a target for heart disease.

If two or more of the above apply to you, you’ll need a physician’s approval prior to beginning your new workout program.

Respiratory Diseases

Bronchitis, asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease are all conditions that affect the way your lungs extract oxygen from the air and transfer it to your blood. Because it is crucial your muscles are constantly bathed with oxygen during exercise, you’re personal trainer needs to know if you have any conditions that limit the transfer of oxygen to your bloodstream. Likewise, your trainer needs to know the medications you are currently taking, and your physician will need to clear you to exercise.

Musculoskeletal Conditions

Any previous injuries to your muscles, bones, tendons and ligaments should be disclosed to your personal trainer. These conditions more than likely will not require a doctor’s consent to continue, but your trainer will need to be aware of any potential weaknesses you are bringing to your training. Often times, a personal trainer given all information about a previous injury can help you improve the injured area.

Metabolic Disorders

Diabetes and thyroid disorders both affect metabolism, and should be disclosed to your personal trainer, who will most likely ask your physician to approve you for exercise. With these conditions, regulating metabolism is a daily battle. Any additional exercise will stoke the flames of your metabolic rate and can significantly affect your current treatment regime.

In addition to the above conditions, be sure to thoroughly discuss with your trainer any medications you are on, if you have a hernia or might be pregnant, and lifestyle information asked of you (such as family support, stressors, career, dietary patterns, hobbies, interests, etc). All of this information helps your trainer understand you more, and determine what workout regime will work best with you.

If you’ve gotten through that first date with your trainer and he didn’t ask for any of the above information, he’s just not that in to you, and more than likely, is in to him instead. Drop him, and find that one trainer out there for you.

Because in this relationship, it is all about you.
